The International Dispute Resolution and Risk Management Conference 2024 were successfully held on 8 March

The International Dispute Resolution and Risk Management Conference, along with the Launching Ceremony for the "Practices Guidebook for the Mediation and Risk Management Professionals in the GBA" and "The Directory of Professional Mediation and Risk Management Service in the GBA," was held with great success at the Hong Kong Convention Centre on 8 March. This significant project was organized by the International Dispute Resolution and Risk Management Institute (IDRRMI), funded by the "Trade and Industrial Organisztiion Support Fund, Trade and Industry Department of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and implemented by the Peak. It aimed to promote the application of international mediation for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in handling dispute resolution in the Great Bay Area (GBA) while also highlighting Hong Kong's professional mediation services for the GBA.

Building upon a series of seminars organized in Hong Kong and China since April 2023, this conference stood out as the highlight of the project. In addition to valuable insights and professional sharing from esteemed speakers, the event served as the official launching ceremony for two essential publications: the "Practices Guidebook for the Mediation and Risk Management Professionals in the GBA" and "The Directory of Professional Mediation and Risk Management Service in the GBA." These two books provide specialized guidance and knowledge on international mediation, catering to the needs of professionals in the field.

 

The conference commenced with opening remarks from Mr. Fang Jianming, Deputy Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in the Hong Kong Special Administration Region, followed by a keynote speech delivered by the Honorable Mr. Justice Johnson LAM Man-hon, Permanent Judge of the Court of Final Appeal of Hong Kong SAR. Notable keynote speakers included Dr. Sun Jin, Director-General of the International Organization for Mediation Preparatory Office, and Ms. Athita Komindr, Head of UNCITRAL Regional Centre for Asia and the Pacific (UNCITRAL RCAP), United Nations Commission on International Trade Law.

 

Renowned experts from the legal, international mediation, and legal sectors shared their insights on various topics related to mediation professional services in the GBA and Belt & Road Initiative regions.  This conference featured 3 sub-themes “Mediation professional services in the GBA and Belt & Road Initiative regions”, “Development of the UN Convention on International Mediation, business opportunities for advanced dispute resolution and deal-making services in the GBA”, and “The future of dispute resolution and deal-making professional services in the GBA and Belt & Road Initiative regions”.

 

250 professionals from the legal, international mediation, SME investors and financial industries participated to promote experience sharing, promote exchanges, and jointly promote the development of dispute resolution and mediation professional services for SMEs in the Greater Bay Area. IDRRMI facilitates fair and efficient international business transactions and promotes the use of international dispute resolution and risk management services. IDRRMI will proactively participate in discussions to develop policies and mechanisms to promote fair and free international and interstate trade and dispute resolution.
