In order to meet the development trend and need for professional mediation around the world, the People’s Republic of China and various foreign states signed the “Joint Statement on the Future Establishment of the International Organization for Mediation” (“Joint Statement”), which confirmed the joint initiation of the establishment of the International Organization for Mediation (“IOMed”). The IOMed will be an international inter-governmental organization established through consultations among all parties. It will offer a new mediation platform for the peaceful settlement of international disputes, providing friendly, flexible, economical and convenient solutions to various users from different parts of the world.
Pursuant to the Joint Statement, the IOMed Preparatory Office, the office to negotiate the relevant arrangements, international conventions and preparatory work in relation to the establishment of the IOMed, will be set up in Hong Kong. According to the official announcement on the 1st November 20221, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of The People’s Republic of China and the Hong Kong SAR signed the “Arrangement on the Establishment of the International Organization for Mediation Preparatory Office”, the arrangement stipulates provisions relating to the establishment of the IOMed Preparatory Office.

International Dispute Resolution and Risk Management System congratulations the Joint Statement signed by the People’s Republic of China and various foreign states, and warmly welcomes the establishment of the International Organization for Mediation Preparatory Office in Hong Kong.
The International Dispute Resolution and Risk Management System (“IDRRMS”) is jointly established by the International Dispute Resolution and Risk Management Institute (“IDRRMI”), the Hong Kong Mediation Centre (“HKMC”), the Mainland-Hong Kong Joint Mediation Center (“MHJMC”), the Hong Kong International Mediation Centre (“HKIMC”), the Hong Kong Centre of International Commercial Arbitration (HKCICA), the Hong Kong Adjudication Centre, the International Professional Advocate Association (“IPAA”), the Academy of International Dispute Resolution and Professional Negotiation (“AIDRN”) and other professional institutions and affiliated chambers of commerce. It is a comprehensive system that integrates professional training, and qualification accreditation for cross-border dispute resolution professionals, in which to provide efficient and high-quality cross-border dispute resolution services.
